Personal Knowledge management is a way to segregate information/knowledge for personal purpose.

  • Dont process too much of information or the information will come to bite you!
  • Dont be in hurry , race creates problems you cant imagine possibly pushes you further back then forward

How to take notes

There are 4 type of notes we should use to manage our knowledge.

  • Fleeting notes: Collect ideas and note them anywhere to refer later on.
  • Literature notes: These are the short and concise notes from content you consume that are translated further into the permanent notes that will stay in your zettelkasten [^1] .
  • Project notes: These notes are specific to a project in our life that is temporary in nature and hence these notes are to be deleted after the project is finished.
  • Permanent notes: All other categories except Project notes are finally converted into this of notes for better retrieval.

LYT (Linking your thinking)

This is a method picked from the videos on youtube called linking your thinking

The access way describes how the data in our knowledge tree should be constructed so that it is easily describable,available and navigable at all times.

  • A : Atlas
    • top view of your knowledge world.
    • here everything that we want to store the navigation of is stored in a precise way.
  • C :Calendar
    • things that have time oriented with them.
    • logs,important dates journals and so on are sorted and stored here.
  • C :Cards
    • everything , each and every content is stored in the Cards and given a special if want to.
  • E : Extra
    • any material associated to the content such as the images,videos,PDF files are stored here.
  • S : Sources
    • any external links,resources,books,podcasts related to ideas and research papers,movies etc are stored here.
  • S : Spaces
    • Our life is split into several spaces and so we can allot each space a name
      • Each space follows a M.A.P.S structure
        • M.O.C: Maps to orient to any region associated with the current space.
        • Areas: Currently working areas.
        • Projects: Projects under the current space zone
        • Support notes: Motivation to continue and thrive for the above things

My Takings from LYT method

The above system is quite efficient but to clearly copy the system is not worth while unless I add my twist to it My inspiration leads to few conclusions

  • A guide is required to locate through your jungle of thoughts like a map of all maps.
  • Zones are required

  • I currently use Obsidian as my Second Brain, Personal Knowledge Management system and also as my note-making app as it provides me with bi-directional linking and full-fledged visualization still keeping with the simplicity of the markdown. See Note-Making not Note-Taking

Description

A flash card app used to take note of something you want to definitely remember ,uses a process known as Spaced repetition

  • Strong retention, deeper understanding, and unbreakable study habits are merely the byproducts of a coherent process

Learning

  1. Cloze cards are made to make fill in the blank type questions
    • we can make them by selecting cloze type of card
    • use alt if you want to put all the blanks to be coming in one card only.
    • other wise by default all the blanks would refer to different cards each blank.

My workflow

  • I make anki flash cards for various things I would like to remember for a longer period of time.
  • Creation of a deck must be done by thinking if we can deal with the deck’s topic through tagging the topic in some other deck or not,if possible not create many decks but many cards.
  • For general cards (theory,concepts,language and so on)
    • The cards questions must be small
    • The card must be tagged with tag related to that question.
  • For computer science
    • cards should contain short snippets or concept
    • cards should exemplify using any diagram or using code.

Note: Not everything should be made a flash card only specific things that are of utmost importance should be made into the card and else it should be made a note in the note-taking app like Obsidian vault (comrade) in my case.
